John Platt's move to Unit Still Photography came after more than 30 years of working on-set, within the Camera Department.

The attraction of a greater creative input and the increased autonomy that the Unit Stills position offered, along with a return to his first love, that of photography, drove him to make the transition.

In 2025, after ten years of shooting production stills, he was invited to join the prestigious Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers.

Along with his Unit Stills work, he is also the Photo Editor for the Australian Cinematographers Society Magazine and in early 2025 published his first book, volume one of 'Observations on Set' 1983-2005. Volume two, 2005-2025, is due late 2026.

Based in Sydney, Australia he works throughout the country and holds both Australian and British passports.
